
Born July 1, 1918 in Winchester, MA, to Esther Walker Wolfe and Chester Fisher Wolfe, John graduated from Winchester High and then the School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He joined the Army in 1942 as a proud member of the 94th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron and was later promoted to Sergeant, where he served as a Gun Commander in the 704th Tank Destroyer Battalion attached to the 4th Armored Division. Battles and Campaigns are listed as Normandy, N. France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart, as well as the Good Conduct Medal, the Bronze Star for Bravery, and the French Croix De Guerre.
In 1949, he married Olive Kimball of Woodville, MA, and together they raised five children. He is Survived by Kimberly, Linda, Alison, Clifton, and Paula, and five grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother, Chester Fisher Wolfe and sister, Nancy Knox and several nieces and nephews. He was employed at Westborough State Hospital as Head Farmer until 1973 when he retired to Barnstable.
In 1991, he married Elaine Deslauriers and enjoyed love the second time around. He is also survived by his wife Elaine, Elaine’s children: Dianne Lucas and Gary Deslauriers, as well as two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Doane Beal & Ames, 160 W. Main Street in Hyannis at 1PM. A short service will be followed by visitation until around 3PM.
