Barnstable --Judith “Jude” Aberle Jones Riley died on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at her home since 1987 in Barnstable MA after living gracefully with cancer for 6 years.
Jude was born on July 26, 1956 in Rome, New York to Lawrence and Marilyn Newitt Jones. She graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1974 and attended the Utica School of Commerce as well as Cazenovia College for 2 years.
Jude was always known for her warm heart and constant smile. She had a wonderful laugh and a kind, strong spirit that could greet you with love and yet hold you accountable for your part of the conversation, or project or agreement. She and Bill her husband of 38 years had known of each other in high school but they didn’t really meet until each had moved to Breckinridge CO. He recalls his amazement as he watched her make friends immediately upon meeting someone. Once they met, they immediately and forever fell in love. In those mountain years, they worked together in their construction company designing and building homes and restoring storefronts in the old western town ....and began their family. Their first daughter Jessica was born in Breckinridge.
When they returned to Rome NY, their business and their family grew. Michael and Jason were born. Then the opportunity to move the business to Cape Cod lured them to new adventures. Their fourth child Kevin was born in Barnstable.
Jude and Bill co-owned and ran their company RyCon together as a team....a collaboration of talent, patience and creativity and hard work. In addition to raising 4 children and her partnership with Bill, Jude found joy as an avid reader, excellent cook and most talented artist in clay, fibers, and drawing. Jude loved her gardens. But most of all she loved her Bill and her children. She was a wonderful mother and opened her heart and her home to many more than her immediate family.
Six years ago, Jude was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and was referred to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Bos†on where she received incredible care allowing her invaluable time to spend with her family. She faithfully complied with the arduous schedule and treatment regime. The strength of her character and her will to live allowed her to live longer than “suggested” as she soaked in the joy and richness of seeing her children find their calling in life. She delighted in their happiness and successes. She was blessed wi†h 4 brilliant grand children....Aberle Grace and Benjamin Bodhi Norton and Kennedy and Tanner Mullen.
Jude was known to so many at Dana Farber....she did not just do treatment and scoot....she always found someone there that needed a little more TLC than she did so she gave them hers....she cried with them and celebrated with them and loved them. Jude was honored in 2012 to be a representative of the Dana Farber Jimmy Fund Walkathon. That same year, her daughter Jessica ran the Boston Marathon in her honor. It is the family’s wishes that donation be made directly to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
Jude is survived by her beloved husband Bill, children Jessica (Mathew), Michael, Jason, Kevin and Jaime (Trey) and grandchildren Aberle and Benjamin Norton and Kennedy and Tanner Mullen.
Jude is also survived by her parents Larry and Lynne Jones of Rome NY and siblings: Deborah Jones Reifenstein (George), Betsy Jones McMahon (John), Lawrence James (Jamo) Jones (Rose), Andrea Jones and many nieces and nephews who all loved Aunt Jude and their visits together.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville. Interment at Crocker Cemetery, W. Barnstable. Calling hours will be Monday from 4pm to 7pm at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601. For online condolences, please visit www.doanebealames.com.
