Leonard James Gallagher, Jr., 87, passed away at the Brookside Regency Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Centerville on Sunday, March 11, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
Len was predeceased by his adored wife of 57 years, Kathleen Crosby Gallagher, in October 2007. He was also predeceased by his brother, David, of Osterville. He is survived by his three children: Leonard J. III and his wife, Helen; Ellen and her husband, Richard Bowen; and Mark and his wife, Laurie. His family includes five grandchildren: Todd and his wife, Lisa; Leonard J. IV; Amy; Christopher; and Kathryn; and a great-grandson, Michael. He also leaves behind his two sisters-in-law, Jeanne Bernhardt of West Yarmouth and Anne McCarthy of Norwood, and many nieces and nephews.
Len was born in Boston, raised in West Roxbury, and summered in Osterville. He was a graduate of Boston English High School. During World War II, from 1943 through 1946, he served in the 13th United States Air Force in the Pacific theatre. He graduated from Boston University in 1950 and took post-graduate banking and finance courses at Williams College. His banking career included various positions at Norfolk County Trust Company; president at Lowell Bank and Trust Company; and president and Board of Directors’ member at Century Bank and Trust Company.
