She was predeceased by her husband, Richard, on June 23rd of last year, the morning of their 64th wedding anniversary.

She also leaves her sister’s children, niece Elaine Valasakos Kenniston and nephews Leonard and Daniel Valasakos.
Marge was born in Hyannis in the Town of Barnstable. She grew up and attended grammar school in the village of West Barnstable. She had a life-long fondness and connection to that village and its’ Finnish community. Her grandfather and father ran the village grocery store, P. Fisk and Son, located on the corner of 6A and Plum Street.
Marge continued her education in the Barnstable school system graduating from High School in 1944. She was Secretary of her senior class and during her senior she wrote the class song, “The Class of ’44.” She was an accomplished musician, playing the violin and the piano, which she continued to play later in life. She had a beautiful soprano voice singing and soloing for many years in the Federated Church of Hyannis choir.
Marge continued her education obtaining her degree from Framingham State College. Upon returning to the Cape, she married Richard “Dick” Scudder and soon thereafter they started a family. They had four children in less than a five year period. Marge was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was involved in numerous activities with her children encouraging them to take part in sailing, swimming, team sports, cub scouts, (Marge was a Den Mother) girl scouts, music and church. When her children got older and required less of her time she turned to teaching. She started substitute teaching and was soon asked to join the Barnstable School system full time teaching Home Economics at the Junior High School level for many years.
She enjoyed many activities such bridge and all types of needlework. Throughout her life she maintained a close connection with the ladies of her sewing club, nicknamed “stitch and bitch”. She had a passion for anything food and reading and tweaking recipes was a favorite pastime. She enjoyed traveling and the time she was able to spend in Florida during the winter with her husband Dick. But it was family and friends that made her most happy. She made great effort to stay connected with all her relationships until the end of her life.
In her last few years Marge became quite physically challenged but she never wanted to be defined by her illness. She would “suit up and show up” for life each day with nary a complaint. The Finnish would say she had an enormous amount of Sisu or determination, spirit, courage, guts and determination.
