Mary A. Downey

Molly Downey, born Mary Agnes Ducey, passed away quietly in her home in Osterville on Monday evening, August 15. She is survived by her husband, William and sons Mark of Dennisport and Steven of Bourne, grandchildren, as well as her brothers Billy of Waltham and Jim of Eastham.

Molly was born in Framingham February 12th, 1926 to Marcella and James Ducey and graduated from Framingham HS in 1944 and later from Regis College. She returned to Framingham High School to teach business courses and was director of the school theater. An avid musician, Molly played the trumpet in the school marching band in her younger years and belonged to the church choir. Later in life, her adult friends knew her for her love for playing the piano and entertaining.

Molly and Bill married on December 26th, 1953 in Framingham. They moved a few times as they started their family while Molly worked for Avon Products as a manager for Southeastern Mass. She declined a promotion that required a move to New York City in favor of bringing up her family in Stoughton. There she worked alongside her husband in real estate and insurance at the John J. Rodgers.

Later, the family moved to Osterville where Molly stayed active socially, ie bridge club, rotary and, garden club, skiing, and ice-skating, all while anchoring the family, raising two boys and remaining instrumental in running the family business: the Corsair Resort Motel in Dennisport.

Her funeral will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601 followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 76 Wianno Ave., Osterville, MA 02655. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery, Rt. 28 & Old Stagecoach Rd., Centerville, MA.Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 pm. on Tuesday, August 23rd at the funeral home.
