Passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, in Hyannis, Massachusetts.
She was 88 years old. She was raised in West Newton, MA, and continued to remain in West Newton, MA for 48 years before settling in West Yarmouth, MA.
She was the daughter of the late Michael and Julia Hansberry (Tarpey). Mary was predeceased by the love of her life, Donald R. Shaughnessy, and by her beloved son, Kevin M. Shaughnessy. Mary is survived by her three daughters: Donna Scully of Framingham, MA; Maryanne (Jim Morse) of West Yarmouth, MA; and Janet (Peter Bibo) of Natick, MA, and her daughter-in-law, Penny Shaughnessy of West Yarmouth, MA.
Mary had five grandchildren whom she adored: Matthew Scully (Cari), Ashley Shaughnessy, Brendan Shaughnessy (Kate), Ryan Bibo (Carolyn), and Jake Bibo.
She also leaves her three siblings, Anna Hargedon (deceased Paul), John Hansberry (deceased Rita), Ted Hansberry (Terry), and Michael Hansberry (Susan).
She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-laws.
Mary had an associates degree from Massachusetts Bay Community College in Psychology. Worked at H&R Block as a tax consultant for 30 years.
Mary was easygoing, an avid traveler, and loved camping, reading, and yearly fall leaf-peeping trips. Spent many winters in Naples, Florida.
Spent summers at Sea Gull Beach, loved entertaining on Cape Cod; playing cards and dominoes was her favorite pastime with friends and family.
Mary especially loved her sweets and enjoyed Johnny Mathis.
She is survived by a large and devoted family who will carry her memory forward.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mary’s life at a Funeral Mass on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Parish, 5 Barbara St., South Yarmouth, MA. Burial will follow at Chandler Gray Cemetery, 161 Old Mill Way, West Yarmouth, MA.
