Michael, a professional musician and songwriter grew up in Brookline, MA. He started his musical career at age 8 when he received his first guitar, and became a renowned guitarist, singer and songwriter. He led the “Griffin’s” singing group, performing across the United States, in Ireland and England; and made many television and radio appearances, including the Today Show performing with John Denver who asked Michael for his autograph, touting Michael as “One of the finest young talents I’ve ever performed with.”
Michael’s musical career and love of family was central to his life. His gift of music was an inspiration to his family and all others that he touched. Michael was a kind and humble leader. Throughout his life he demonstrated courage, strength and perseverance in all that he pursued, and in the face of any challenge that came before him. His robust laughter, good humor and connection with others will be sorely missed. He leaves us with an enduring legacy in song, friendship and love of family. He will always be our leader of the band!
Michael, the oldest son of eight children was born in Boston, MA. He is survived by his parents James J. Griffin and Kathleen T. Griffin of Centerville, MA, formerly of Brookline, MA, and siblings, Maureen A. Griffin and husband, Michael Putnam of Sudbury, MA; Kevin J. Griffin of Merrimac, MA and his partner Bonnie Perkins; James M. Griffin and wife, Carolyn of Framingham, MA; Sean F. Griffin and wife Liz of Osterville, MA; Katie Griffin McIntyre of Brookline, MA and late husband Jeffrey McIntyre; Karen M. Griffin and husband, Ben Ghamami of White Plains, NY; Liam K. Griffin and wife Amy of San Clemente, CA and 20 loving nieces and nephews: Conor, Ryan, Alex, Kyle, Emily, Griffin, Seamus, Nathaniel, Sean B., McCall, Sean P., Keira, Taylor, Bridget, Tucker, Brianna, Emma, Addison, Liam and Declan; along with his dear friend and companion Ellen Carroll.
In Celebration of Michael’s life, Calling Hours will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA 02661, (508) 775-0684, followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00 pm Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main Street, Centerville, MA 02632. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery, Pine Street, Centerville, MA.
