

Penelope Maniates, 86, of West Yarmouth, MA and formerly of Peabody, MA passed away Monday, November 30, at the McCarthy Care Center in East Sandwich. Her daughter Valerie was by her side constantly throughout her recent illness.
Penelope was born on October 28, 1929, the son of Christos Terzis and Hariklia (Peterson) Terzis in Lynn, MA. She married Peter Maniates of Boston on November 3, 1957, and the two enjoyed a marriage of mutual love and devotion for the past 58 years, until the recent passing of Peter on November 5. They raised their two children, Valerie and Christopher, in Peabody and later retired in West Yarmouth.
Penny was an energetic wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who cherished every day of her life. She was a role model for her family, constantly demonstrating her devotion and unconditional love of family, and compassion for those in need. An avid and knowledgeable Boston sports fan, Penny enjoyed rooting for her favorite Red Sox and Patriots players.
Penny was an active member of the St George Greek Orthodox Church in Centerville, and the St. Katherine’s Philoptochos Society. She cherished her many friends, and she and husband Peter frequently enjoyed their company for holidays, vacations, and special occasions. She was known as a gracious hostess who made everyone feel welcome and loved.
Penny is survived by her two children: Valerie Molnar, and her husband Randy, of Anthem, AZ and Christopher Maniates, and his wife Judy, of Peabody; 5 grandchildren: Michael Molnar (and wife Danielle), Eric Molnar (and wife Alexis), Melanie Molnar, Christopher Maniates , and David Maniates; and 2 great-grandchildren: Dominic Molnar and Addison Molnar. She is also survived by her sister, Mary (Terzis) Kuliopulos of North Reading. She was predeceased by her husband Peter Maniates, and her brother Charles Terzis of Lynn.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Penny’s funeral service on Thursday December 3 at 11:00 AM at St George Greek Orthodox Church at 1130 Falmouth Rd in Centerville, MA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Chandler Gray Cemetery, West Yarmouth, MA.
