Centerville – Richard A. Cross Jr, 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on February 20, 2019. He was the son of the late Richard and Alice Cross of Osterville and is survived by his three children, Mary Alyce Cross, Elly Mead and Jamie Cross, two grandchildren Andrew and Abigail Mead, sister Nancy (Cross) Leghorn and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Janet (Cross)Beis.
Richard graduated from Barnstable High School and was a graduate of Wilbraham Academy. He served in the Korean War as a Sergeant in the Air Force flying many missions as a Radio Control Operator.
He worked for the Tracy family at Tracy Volkswagon in Hyannis for many decades. He also ran a small business called Vegas East with his son. He served his community on local boards and committees throughout his life. He was a member of the Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, served as Chairman of the Barnstable Republican Town Committee, Treasurer of the Osterville Horticultural Society and most recently as Commissioner of the Barnstable Housing Authority.
He was an avid golfer and member of the Cummaquid Golf Club.
A visitation with the family will be held Friday, March 1 from 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday March 2 at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Assumption in Osterville. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville.
