Robert grew up in Natick, MA and graduated from Natick High School in 1956. Fitzie joined the United States Coast Guard, entering service in 1957. During his tenure, he served on several ships as a Fire Fighter and Damage Control Specialist. Fitzie was proud to be called a "Coastie". In 1962, Bobby joined the Natick (MA) Fire Department where he met some of his dearest friends. Bobby received several certifications to include Tillerman Driver, Dive Team Member, and EMT. In 1984, he was promoted to Lieutenant where he served until his retirement in 1993 after 32 years of distinguished service.
Bobby was a proud member of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts throughout his career and well into his retirement. While on the Cape, Fitzie believed in giving back to his community with Habitat for Humanity, was a Board Member for the Centerville Civic Association and treasured his Breakfast Club Meetings.
Fitzie leaves behind his loving wife of 22 years, Claire Fitzgerald, his sister, Joan Bouret, his two son's Tom and Shaun Fitzgerald, and his step-son, Eric Kester. He was adored by his grandchildren, Brendan Fitzgerald, Ellen Kester, Jack Kester, and Sam Kester.
At his request, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 15th from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at DiParma's Restaurant, 175 Rt. 128, Yarmouth, MA.
