

Ruth (Mayo)(Ackerman) Huff of Hyannis died August 11 at the Cape Cod Hospital of a heart attack. She was 92. She had been a long time resident of Brewster and more recently of West Yarmouth and Hyannis.
Mrs. Huff was born in Plymouth, MA and raised in Westminster, VT. She was the daughter of William Irving and Ester Mayo and a descendant of John Mayo of Roxbury (1630). She was a graduate of Green Mountain and Simmons Colleges. She was married to Sumner Ackerman until his death in 1975. They had lived together in Natick, Walpole and Lexington, MA. They moved to Brewster in 1973. In 1976 she married Kenneth Huff who predeceased her in 1998. She had a lifetime commitment to her family and her music. She studied and taught piano until her retirement in 2003. She enjoyed travel, having travelled to Japan, Scotland, Austria (for the Mozart Music Festival), France and Italy.
She was raised on the campus of New England Kurn Hattin Homes in Westminster, VT where her father had served as Executive Director. The Homes are a charitable organization operating a residential facility for at-risk children. She had remained active in the Homes serving as a member of the Board of the Massachusetts Corporation until her death.
She leaves her sister Priscilla M. Watson of Syracuse, NY, her children Jean A. Morland of Chelmsford, MA and David W. Ackerman of Sandwich, MA and her grandson Nathan L. Ackerman.
A memorial service will be held at the First Parish Unitarian Church, Brewster, MA on Saturday August 18 at 1:00 PM.
