

On Saturday March 19th Will Emerson Werner died unexpectedly.
Will was born on February 19, 1987 at Cape Cod Hospital and grew up in Centerville.
He was the beloved son of Elizabeth Stevens and Kevin Werner. He was Hanna and Graham Werner’s “big brother”. He leaves behind his grandmothers Marcia Stevens and Patricia Werner; his aunts Anne Wade, Sarah Stevens, Alicia and Claudia Werner; his uncles Lester Wade, M. Lee Stevens and Peter Werner. He also leaves behind cousins Dustin Werner, LeeAnne Nichol, Sarah Burns, Kristin and Curtis Werner, and Elizabeth, Alyson, Catherine Wade. He was loved by his late Aunt Suzanne Reid and grandfathers, “Grampy” Werner and “Papa” Stevens.
Will was well-known as a Barnstable Little League and AAU baseball catcher. He received the Thomas Wallace award as well as other sportsmanship awards. He graduated from Barnstable High School in 2005. He enjoyed fishing with his grandfather as a boy and worked on Hy-Line boats as a teenager. Will had a life-long appreciation of music, played the drums and completed a program at the New York School of Audio Engineering. During that time he played baseball with a Brooklyn Baseball Men’s league. Will continued playing baseball the following summer with a league in Colorado where he traveled throughout the western states.
At the time of his death, he was completing his senior year at UMass Amherst where he studied Kinesiology, and was expecting to graduate with a Bachelors of Science degree this May. Will was recently offered a position as an athletic trainer at a sports facility in the Boston and was looking forward to this exciting prospect.
Wherever Will went he made friends easily and maintained these friendships over the years. Will “lived life large.” He had a natural ability to light up a room with his quick wit, sense of humor and laughter. He had true friends from all walks of life and was well loved for his passion for living, enthusiasm for adventure and generous smile.
Will loved and was deeply loved by family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
A memorial visitation will be held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home 160 W Main St, Hyannis, MA on Friday from 5:30-8:30pm. A celebration of Will’s life will take place at South Congregational Church, 565 Main Street, Centerville on Saturday at 1 pm.
