Carl E. Casteel

Carl was born July 21, 1945, in St Louis, Missouri. He and his sister Janet were in a St. Louis orphanage. Carl was adopted at the age of 6 and his sister by the late Rolla W and Helen E (Sharp) Casteel. Carl served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He proudly served with the MASH unit caring for the wounded during the war. After the war Carl received his LPN Degree, continuing his work for those needing compassionate care. Carl also worked in maintenance, providing HVAC services, to keep everyone comfortable year-round. His favorite pastime was fishing. He loved being in his boat on the water and spending time with those he loved. Carl’s contributions to their Church were unwavering, always available to step in and assist with their facility's needs, fellowship with other church members, and spiritual guidance and prayers with anyone who was in need. His love of music could be heard throughout the chapel, as his fingers gracefully played the piano keys. This love of music resonated at home as well. Carl’s lighthearted spirit was always available for his family and friends. His laugh, joking manner, and funny phrasing of words always brought a smile to anyone’s face. He was our “Superman.”

He is survived by his wife Susan (McBride) Casteel, his children Cody Casteel, Daniel Casteel, the late Cathe Casteel, Denise & Tony Metoyer, Michael & Marie Beauchamp, and Hayden Sapp. 8 grandchildren Jordan Casteel, Hailey Hendrix, Skyler Lucas Casteel, Kristannie Casteel, Teesha Driver, Ashley & Matt Koepkey, Jenna Gorsline and Skylar Dawn Beauchamp, 5 great-grandchildren Conlon Elliott, Allison Koepkey, Brooklyn Koepkey, Caden Koepkey and Lonnie Lee Pierce. His sister Janet Henry, 2 nieces Andrea Hedges and Angela Hoppa and 2 great nieces Adelyn Hedges and Brittney McCall.

Celebration of life service 5:00pm, January 4, 2024, at New Walnut Community of Christ Church 1137 S Pearl St, Independence, Missouri. Inurnment with full military honors 3:00pm January 5, 2023, Higginsville State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri.
