

Charles “Charlie” Joseph Bemboom, Sr., 69, of Independence, MO passed away Friday, December 25, 2015, at home after a hard fought battle with cancer. Charles was born Oct. 8, 1946, to John and Antoinette (Distler) Bemboom. He was born and raised in Jefferson City, MO. On Nov. 13, 1965, he married Dortha Lorene Boten of Lee’s Summit, MO. Charles worked for and eventually owned Waits Service Station for 50 years until his retirement in April 2015. His co-workers and customers over the years were like his extended family. He loved to fish, garden, play cards and watch his grandchildren play ball. He also enjoyed traveling - Branson, Disney World and a Caribbean Cruise. His Schnauzers were his babies and spoiled rotten. Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dortha, his parents, grandparents, mother-in-law, Dorothy, his brother Herbert Donald, his sister, Anna Elizabeth, and niece Maxine Loretta Grayson. He is survived by his children Wanda Sue Ricks and husband Shawn, Kansas City, MO, Laura Lea Jakubec and husband John, Kearney, MO, Charles Joseph Bemboom, Jr. and wife Awana, Sugar Creek, MO: three grandchildren, Nicole Ashley, Tiffany Renae and Jason Todd Jakubec, all of Kearney, MO; and three step-grandchildren, Angel, Daisy and JR. He is also survived by his sister, Loretta Penner, Lamar, MO, his brother, Francis Bemboom, Slater, MO, his three sister-in-laws, Frances Bohachick and husband Sam, Platte City, MO, Jenny Boten, Pittsburg, MO, Mary Phillips, Liberty, MO and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dad and Grandpa, you will forever be in our hearts, we love you. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 30th at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Noland Road Chapel, Indep. Visitation at 9:30 a.m., Service at 11 a.m., Burial at noon at Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery, Indep. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
