Dorothy was born in Kansas City, MO and grew up in Fayette, MO where she graduated from high school in 1951. She was from a family of 12 kids and she was number 8. She worked at the drugstore in town as a teenager. She married Jack L Obbink on October 1, 1952. They moved to the Kansas City, MO area after they married. They lived most of their married life in Independence, MO. They were married for 68 years before Jack passed away in 2021. Dorothy was a homemaker and raised 4 children. She provided daycare in her home for several different families when her children were growing up, and she loved those kids as her own. She became everyone’s Grandma Dorothy or Aunt Dot, even to some who were not related to her. Wherever she went babies and kids were just drawn to her. They knew she loved children. She was a positive and very good-natured person and only saw the good in everyone. She was one of the greatest examples of a Christian there is and loved by everyone she knew.
She was a long-standing member of Pleasant View Christian Church in Independence, MO. There she took care of babies in the nursery, taught Sunday School, Jr Church, helped with VBS and volunteered for whatever needed to be done. She was a member of the CWF and hosted many Fellowship Dinners.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her spouse Jack L Obbink (2021), her oldest son, David Leroy Obbink (2019), her parents, Austin A & Dorothy I Lynch and several brothers and sisters.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, John (Nita) Obbink, Thomas (Jacque) Obbink, one daughter, Jane (Joe) Bennett, one daughter in-law Debbie Obbink (David’s wife), two brothers, Austin Lynch and James Lynch, one sister, Eileen Potter, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and too many nieces and nephews to count.
