Edward earlier educational years were spent in New Orleans School District and in 1973 he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. He was known to family and friends as “Doc” due to his many educational adventures after graduating from High School. Specifically, when he went to school to become a Paramedic he inherited the name “Doc”. Edward attended Delgado Community College and was a member of their singing group where he traveled and sang in various locations. He was also called “Booley” to immediate family and close friends. Edward grew up most of his life in New Orleans, Louisiana with his mother and two brothers. He was raised as a Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Christian and often would learn his memory verses and would receive a reward of cookies from his mother along with his two brothers. Edward accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized in 1969 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana at the young age of 14. He loved to sing spiritual songs and often would sing for his Church in Kansas City, Nursing Homes and the Rehab facility where he resided for the past 2 years.
Edward worked at the Avondale Shipyard for over 18 years as a Pipefitter until he was displaced by the storm Katrina in 2005. During this time, he met fell in love and married Shirley Stewart.
Edward was a soft spoken caring, thoughtful and loving person to many and never met a stranger every place he went. Even though he struggled with his long illness he would want to contact them to either wish them a happy birthday, Veterans Day or just to hear their voice. His illness did not prevent him from serving God. Whenever he had the opportunity to attend Church he would make sure he would do special music.
