Mr. Smith was a Baptist. By trade he was a Machinist.
Mr. Smith departed this life on May 17, 2024, at his home in Independence. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Billy Joe, Jackie S. and Howard Paul and one grandson; Levi Light.
Survivors include his wife, Marie, one son; James Mark Smith Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann and Sam Schaeffer of Blue Springs, MO and Cindy D. Smith Crapo of Independence, MO, one brother, Lannie and Mink Smith of Savannah, Georgia; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
