

Jean E. Johnson, 90, of Independence, MO peacefully passed away Monday, January 9, 2023 at home, surrounded by her family. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 17th at the Newcomer's Noland Road Chapel, 509 S. Noland Road, Independence, MO 64050. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Private family burial service at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Jean was born and raised in Independence, MO and had lived here all her life. She attended school at Benton Elementary, Palmer Junior High, and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1950. She married her husband, Monte, in June of 1950, and they were married for 60 years. Jean and Monte had two children, a daughter Ruth, and a son Robert. Jean was a loving wife, mother, homemaker, a good neighbor and friend, one who had a heart of gold and took the time to listen to anyone with a concern or problem, and was always willing to help those in need.
Jean worked outside the home in several capacities, much of which included secretarial work for the RLDS Church. She was employed at Herald Publishing House, Blue Valley Stake Office, and The Auditorium. She also served as a pharmacy helper and bookkeeper for Denton Drugs Pharmacy on Independence Square for 13 years.
Her current church home was The Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Independence. Jean previously attended the Slover Park RLDS Church and the East Independence RLDS Church. She participated in many activities during the years which included helping teach children's classes, being the Women's Leader, helping with Cub Scouts. Jean was also on the Prayer Chain and made frequent calls for those requesting prayers.
Jean had a couple of hobbies, one of which was collecting dolls. Her other hobby was designing greeting cards from a computer program and send the cards to various church members, friends, and neighbors for birthdays, get well wishes, sympathy cards, or a "just because" or "thinking of you".
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Monte. She is survived by daughter Ruth Holloway and husband Terry; son Robert Johnson; granddaughter Kimberly Haws and husband Eric; granddaughter Kerri Yager and husband Scott; granddaughter Mary Jacobs and husband Mike. Great grandchildren include Brandon Haws, Jonathan Moyer, Maci Moyer, and Olivia Moyer. There are several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Jean's family would like to give special thanks to Phoenix Home Care and Hospice for the care that was provided to Jean during these past few months, and especially in her final few days. This was truly a blessing for all of us.
