Judy Kay Harbin, age 67, died suddenly and unexpectedly in the early morning hours of August 7, 2018. Judy was born in Independence and attended Young School when it became a Special Education facility. She began working at the Jackson County Sheltered Workshop in 1969, shortly after it opened. She later went on to work at Jewish Vocational Services and Goodwill Industries. She retired the first of this year because, as she put it, “she was tired of working”. She was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church in Independence, and her church meant the world to her. The family is very appreciative of the care and concerns her church family felt for her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Dorothy Harbin, and her sister Linda Irick of Yuma, AZ. She is survived by her brother-in-law Jeff Irick, her aunt, Jane Dauer, and cousins Gary Dauer, Debra Bewley, Don Harbin and Jeff Harbin. In lieu of flowers, we request donations to First United Methodist Church of Independence, or The Center for Developmentally Disabled.
Services will be Saturday, August 11 at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 at First United Methodist Church, 400 W Maple, Independence, MO
