

Letha was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Carl; her two brothers, Bill and Bob Hickam; and her son-in-law Michael R Scollin. She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Laura and Greg Dorsch and Linda and Patrick Kelly, all of Independence, MO; her grandchildren and their spouses, Michael (Brooke) Scollin, Tim (Aubrey) Dorsch, Teresa Dorsch, Jason (Kashena) Scollin, Sean (Kelsey) Kelly, Megan Kelly, and Patrick Kelly; and great grandchildren, Austin and Kenadie Scollin; Caleb, Charlie, Eli, Ezra, and Zeke Dorsch; Jay, Jax and Jon Scollin; and Lincoln and Tynlee Kelly.
Letha was loved by so many people. She was happy and led a full life, enjoying her family and friends. She never regretted a birthday and looked forward to what the next year would bring. She and Carl enjoyed retirement, traveling all over the USA, camping and fishing with friends and family, playing golf, enjoying time with grandchildren and great grandchildren, and playing cards and games whenever possible. When at home she baked pies and cookies and sewed and sewed some more. She began sewing at age 13, making her own clothes, sewing Laura and Linda’s clothes all through their childhood, items for family, and home decor. She would volunteer to sew for special mission projects for people all over the world.
As a young adult, Letha worked as a secretary, bookkeeper, and salesperson at the Slusher’s shoe and dry goods store on the square. And among other jobs, she worked at home over 25 years for a company making lead digits used for cattle and hog identification tattoos.
Letha was a member of First Baptist Church of Independence for 87 years attending from the time she was 9 years old. Her church and faith were very important to her. During her time at First Baptist, she served in many capacities, among those were director of the nursery, Sunday School teacher to 13-year-old girls, and volunteer in the day care center. She was active in WMU (Women’s Missionary Union) for many years and served as WMU president for several years.
The funeral service will be Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Newcomer’s Noland Road Chapel, 509 S Noland Rd, Independence, MO 64050. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and before the service on Thursday at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers you may donate to the First Baptist Church day care ministry or St. Judes Hospital.
