

Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Ann Howe, 92, of Independence, Missouri, will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at D. W. Newcomer’s Sons, Noland Road Chapel, 509 South Noland Road, Independence, Missouri. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Buckner Hill Cemetery, South Hudson Street, Buckner, Missouri. The family requests contributions to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64145 in lieu of flowers. Mrs. Howe passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri. Mrs. Howe was born on October 3, 1923 in Mountain Grove, Missouri to Roy Clinton Jackson and Fannie (Holdren) Jackson. She was married to the love of her life, Joe LaVaughn Howe, for 66 years prior to his passing in 2013. She was a long-time member of Pleasant View Christian Church, Independence, Missouri.
Mrs. Howe was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She married her longtime sweetheart Joe L. Howe on May 4, 1947. They began their family in 1950 with a son, Dennis. A daughter, Beverly, was born in 1953. Son Garry completed the family in 1955. During those years she lived in Kansas City, Missouri with her husband and children. She worked at Bendix during the late 1950’s. In 1959 her husband and a friend built a house for the young family in Independence where they lived during the children's school years. All of the many young neighborhood boys seemed to choose the Howe’s large yard to play. When the boys got into the inevitable disagreements, she settled them down by saying “If you kids can’t play nice, you’ll have to go home.” She worked in a volunteer program in the Fort Osage School District as a Gray Lady in the Blue Hills Elementary School’s health room. In 1968 she began employment at the Fort Osage School District Administration Office as a payroll clerk and retired in 1986. During retirement, she volunteered her services at a craft store, Keepsake Cupboard on the Independence Square. After moving to Susquehanna Village in Independence in 1992, Mrs. Howe enjoyed exercising and walking through her neighborhood. She spent countless hours with her grandchildren playing games and working puzzles. Mrs. Howe enjoyed working in the family garden, canning and freezing food for her family. She was an excellent cook and made food and desserts for church dinners, neighbors, family gatherings and holidays. Her love for God and others was displayed throughout her entire life.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis J. Howe (Angie) of Blue Springs, Missouri and Garry G. Howe (Linda) of Independence, Missouri, one daughter, Beverly A. Coleman (Jerry), of Independence, Missouri, 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; along with 1 niece and 2 nephews in Texas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe L. Howe, and 2 sisters, Doris L. Jackson and Virginia Simpson.
