Mary L. Simms, aged 92, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022, peacefully in her long-term home in Independence, MO. She was born January 13, 1930 to Clyde and Nellie (Bowen) Thomas. She attended high school William Chrisman High School in Independence Missouri and graduated in the class of 1947. In February 1947 she married Charles E. Simms. They went on to have 1 son Johnnie E. Simms and a daughter Pamela S. Maloney. Some of the activities she enjoyed were bowling, sewing, painting, and had a deep love and interest in books, especially cookbooks. She took great pride in her gardens and enjoyed being surrounded by plants and her books.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her mother Nellie and her father Clyde, her son Johnnie E. Simms, 4 sisters including JoAnn Thomas, Helen Lucille, Norma June Bartlett, and Althea Ethington and 1 brother Donald Thomas, whom she lived down the street from for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Maloney, 2 brothers Terry Wayne Thomas and Clyde E. Thomas, 2 grandsons including John Maloney and his wife Traci, and Cayce Simms. She also has 5 surviving great grandchildren including Jack Linder-Maloney, along with Cayce’s children including Emmie, Apollo, Jinny, and Zerick. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law in which she considered a sister, Madeline Meischner from Illinois and many nieces and nephews in which blessed her life.
She will have a graveside service on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 10:00 am at Mound Grove Cemetery.
Mary lived a long and fruitful life and touched the lives of many who were blessed to know her. May she rest in peace with Jesus.
