Dean Mathis, 89 (1931 - 2021) of Independence, Missouri, was called home by our Lord on June 23rd surrounded by his loving family. After passing peacefully at his home, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlene Mathis, his two sisters, Darlene McAnally (and Dean McAnally) and Donna Custer, Dean's children, Dana Rose Suggs, Jefferey Mathis, Darin and Brett Thomas, their spouses, and six grandchildren. Music was his passion, carrying him all the way to Nashville, and appearing on the Grand Ole Opry. He toured with Loretta Lynn, Roy Clark, Red Foley, and many other stars.
He ultimately chose home life over his career as faith and family grew more important to him than whatever success lay ahead. In transition, he chose a rich and fulfilling career singing Gospel music to audiences everywhere. A man liked by all, Dean expressed a lively sense of humor even in his later years. There is no telling how many people Dean led to Jesus Christ, as it was always imperative that he spoke of the Lord when meeting new people. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 900 NW 22nd St, Blue Springs, MO 64015, on July 1st, from 5 - 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Calvary Baptist church
