
Tommy Lee Gray was born on April 21, 1949 in Carson, Mississippi. The family moved to Chicago, Illinois before he turned one. As a child he attended and was baptized into the Lutheran faith at Bethel Lutheran Church of Englewood in Chicago. He attended Beale Elementary School and Englewood High School. He graduated from Englewood High School in January of 1967. After high school he attended the University of Illinois at Chicago. He began working in a shoe store while in high school. He moved up in the staff to become manager of the shoe store. He was later assigned to be the floating manager of several shoe stores. After leaving the retail shoe store business he began working in the retail clothing business where he quickly became the manager of the store. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, his father, Walter J. Gray, his mother, Alma E. (Berry) Gray, and a sister, Bertha C. Gray. His memory will be cherished by his siblings Phyllis Gray, Bunny L. Gray, Teddy Gray (Theresa), Mary E. Gray and Dolly E. Gray, his many nieces and nephews, as well as a host of relatives and childhood friends. Memorial service will be held Sat. Jan. 9th at Bethel A.M. E. Church located at 2329 Flora Avenue: Kansas City, Missouri at 11:30AM. The Reverend Robert Shaw will be officiating.
