
Virginia was born to Cecil Charles Willis and Doris Avelda Anway, the youngest of three children. Virginia grew up in a log cabin, that was designed and built by her father. The lumber he used was from trees on their property.
Virginia graduated from Olympia High School in 1952. In high school Virginia was involved in musical theater, and playing piano. Her father was Pastor of the Olympia branch of The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Virginia loved many outdoor activities which included, hiking and cross-country skiing at Mount Rainer. She also loved early morning trips to the Pacific Ocean for clam digging. Virginia loved church reunions at Silver Lake and at Samish Island.
As a child, Virginia's family regularly made road trips to British Columbia, Canada. She loved going on camping trips with her aunt and uncle to Mount Rainier. Virginia shared many exciting stories of encounters with bears on these camping trips.
In 1952 Virginia married Richard Lee Davis, of Kansas City, Missouri when he was serving in the U.S. Navy. Dick and Virginia started their family in San Diego, California. Of this union three sons’ were born. Richard Lee and Timothy Grant were both born in San Diego, followed by Ronald Scott in Olympia, Washington.
In 1982 Virginia married classmate Vernon L Martin from Olympia Washington. She loved sewn crafts and quilting, following her mother who was a prolific quilter. She remained very active throughout her life, trying new sports and always ready for a new adventure.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Cecil Grant Willis, her sister Irene Dornan, oldest son Richard Lee Davis Jr., first grandson Benjamin Grant Davis, Vernon Martin and her niece Kathleen Dawn Willis Davis. Virginia leaves behind Timothy Davis (Barbara) and Ron Davis (Denise). She adored her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she helped care for in their young years.
Virginia requested that the following statement of faith be shared with everyone in attendance this afternoon:
“My belief and faith in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit have been a dominating concentration in my life. Although my mistakes and missteps have been great and many, I have always been drawn back to our Creator God and His purposes for all mankind.”
