William E. Herndon Jr.

William E. Herndon William "Bud" Herndon of Independence, Missouri, passed from this life on April 27, 2017, at Centerpoint Medical Center of complications from anaplastic thyroid cancer. Bud was born December 6, 1932, in King City, Missouri to William E. Herndon Sr. and Ruth Herndon. Bud was a Korean War Navy veteran. He proudly worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years, retiring in 1985. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, computers, painting, and playing cards. He was a member of the American Legion, the Shriners, and the Telecom Pioneers. Bud volunteered as a Salvation Army bell ringer for many years. Most importantly he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Bud was preceded in death by his parents William and Ruth Herndon, sister Dorothy Holtzclaw, and brother Gene Herndon. Bud is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beverly Herndon of the home, son Ron Herndon and wife Gina of Independence, son Bill Herndon and wife Stephanie of Las Vegas, Nevada, sister Maxine Hinderliter of Clovis, NM, and granddaughter Erin Krohn and husband Ben, also of Independence.
