

Brother Abel Turner Mayes, Sr. was 86 and resided in Indianapolis, Indiana, when he passed away on December 26, 2021. He was the youngest of two (brother, Elmer Mayes, preceding him in death) and was raised on the westside of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Abel was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky to the late Hugh D. Mayes Jr. and Georgia E. Redmond on January 4, 1935. He attended and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School.
Abel was baptized and accepted Christ in his life at an early age. He was ordained a Deacon in April 1982 through the Gospel Ministry and officiated at the Lamb of God Church of God In Christ on January 31, 1983. In later years he joined Triumph The Church and Kingdom of God In Christ and was the local superintendent for the Advanced School of Wisdom in Indianapolis, Indiana where he remained a faithful member. He loved reading the Bible, teaching Sunday School, loved the Music Ministry and Testimonial Service.
Over the years he worked for Lumberman as a Plant Manager and then at Allison, General Motors as a Journeyman until he retired.
Abel was the father of five children. Two daughters, Angela Perry and Cassandra Allen preceded him in death. He married Giselle Mayes on November 12, 2013.
Abel Turner Mayes Sr. departed this life on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at the age of 86.
He leaves to cherish his memory by his loving and devoted wife, Giselle Mayes; children, Sharon Mayes, Abel Turner Mayes Jr. (Lynne) and Georgia Mayes Jones (William); stepdaughters, Danielle Nobel, Erica Swedish and Tyme Swedish (Jason) and stepson, Corey Nobel (Michelle), 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren - he loved them all near and far; and a host of other relatives, church family, and friends.
