December 2, 1937 – April 7, 2020
“Behold my Servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my Spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgement to the Gentiles
Isaiah 42:1
Reverend Albert Townsend. Jr. (known to many as Junior), He was born December 2, 1937 in West Point, MS to the union of Albert and Odessa Townsend. He was the third born of eight children. He departed this life in peace at the Community East Hospital on April 7, 2020.
He moved to Indianapolis, IN at a very young age where he planted his roots and made a name and reputation for himself that pleased God and his family. His favorite past time was singing gospel for the Lord. Before he left West Point he was the lead singer for a local group known as the Mississippi Spirituals.
When he relocated to Indianapolis he started singing with the Sacred Four Singers under the leadership of James Beck. Mr. Beck took Junior under his wings and made him a great lead singer. He was a dedicated member of the Sacred Four Singers for Sixty-Four (64) years. He took over the position as manager after the death of Mr. James Beck. Under his leadership the Sacred Four song all over the United States praising God in songs.
In later years he was called to the ministry. He was blessed to pastor the Seven Star M.B. Church for twenty-nine years (29). He loved his congregation with his whole heart, mind, and soul.
Junior loved his life, and he cherished every day as if it was his last. He had a very excellent work ethic. He believed in an honest days work and supporting his family. He worked twenty-eight years for Indiana Farm Bureau, and twelve years for the City of Indianapolis. In 1999, he retired and became a man of Leisure. He took on the job of hunting and fishing with his buddy Mr. John Lacey.
On April 26, 1980, he married Mildred Nelson, she shared his passion for singing and serving the Lord. They enjoyed singing together.
His love for family and friends will continue to live in the hearts of many forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mildred Lowery and Fannie Dodd, one brother, Henry C. Townsend, Sr, one daughter, Margaret Marie Hicks, one sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Townsend, and two brothers-in-law, Shirley W. Lowery and Alonzo P. Jackson.
