Dell passed away unexpectedly on December 29th, 2022. Dell was born on February 3rd, 1938, in Morganfield Kentucky, to Alma and J.W Polley. She met Bob Grant, the love of her life, and they were married on July 7th, 1956. She and Bob moved to Indianapolis and had their daughter Peggy.
They lived on the west side of Indianapolis, surrounded by wonderful friends and family. It wasn’t unusual to find Dell and Bob entertaining friends, Bob working on cars, and cooking great meals. Dell was very happy being a homemaker. Some of her cooking specialties included fried chicken, catfish and her wonderful lemon cake.
Words cannot begin to describe how wonderful a mother and grandmother Dell was. She told her granddaughters, Aubrie and Katie, “The word Grandma sounds old”, so she went by Mema. Many of her friends referred to her as Mema too. She was so happy spending time with her granddaughters and in 2004 her great grandson, Jackson was born. She always referred to him as, “my sweet boy.”
Bob and Dell attended the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, helping others to study the bible and learn about the wonderful promises that it holds for the future. Bob and Dell also enjoyed traveling, they went to many places, including Florida, Wyoming and of course back to Kentucky to visit relatives.
Bob passed away in 2015, Dell relied on her family and wonderful group of friends, whom she called “The Girls”. They shared in door-to-door ministry and then would go out for lunch, sharing many laughs.
Dell never met a cat she didn’t like. Her family even referred to her as “The Cat Lady”.
Dell’s passing is very difficult. She was so special to all that knew her. She leaves behind her daughter Peggy and husband Greg Easter, of Fishers. Her granddaughters, Aubrie and Greg Rayne of Indianapolis, Katie and Zak Phend of Fishers, and her great grandson, Jackson. She also leaves behind a brother, Paul and his wife Connie Polley of Arizona, sister Jeanette and her husband Gary Johnson of Kentucky, a half-brother James and his wife Cherie Polley of Kentucky and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday January 14th, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 5667 Moller Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46254. All are welcome to attend.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.crownhill.org for the Grant family.
