Tribute to a Friend
Today, I sat down to write a note to my buddy, saying, “hey, it’s been a while…miss you…when you free?” We did that every once in a while, she and I. Catch a bite to catch up. Talking about this and that, that and this. And two hours later, still had so much more to say. What friends do, you know. 
Making sure I had the right address, checked online – and learned Bernice that God called her home, and she answered. I did not know until today.
The world stopped spinning. My heart paused. A silent tear. Bowed my head. 
Though this note may go unnoticed, I can't let the moment pass without paying tribute to an amazing woman, friend. 
I am profoundly sad that I wasn’t there to tell her goodbye, to tell Lily and Marla how sorry I was for their loss, honor her memory out loud. How much she meant to me, to thank her for the joy, wisdom, humor, and love she brought into my life -- brought into the world. How she always made you feel special, loved. 
Bernice had a gift, as Maya Angelous, so perfectly put it. 
“I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” 
Friends for more than 30 years, Bernice was, well, like no other. A smile as big as the moon – a laugh that made you laugh along. Unwavering conviction and moral courage. What’s right is right, what’s wrong is wrong. Treat others as you’d like to be treated. God knew if you were. 
Just be kind. Profoundly simple and simply profound.
She told me how much she loved her friends – Sunday afternoons – her choir, her church, and above all, Lily and Marla. So proud of you both. A daughter, Lily, working hard, raising a daughter. A granddaughter, brilliant and determined to succeed.  Wish you both peace.
I will miss Bernice. Every time I hear the words “brownies,” “bread pudding,” “cherry pie,” I will smile. And tell others why. 
Bernice’s long life is written in our memories.

My wife, Lady Desiree, and I, along with the Christ Church Apostolic Family, respect the will of the Lord and pause to give Him thanks for the life of your dear departed loved one, Bernice Anderson-Dabner. 
We extend our deepest condolences and prayers of comfort as you walk through this time of bereavement. Our hearts are heavy with you, and we mourn alongside you during this difficult season. In the midst of your sorrow, we encourage you with the truth of God's Word: "And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7). Please take comfort in knowing that the Christ Church family is lifting you up in prayer before our Lord, asking for His peace and strength to surround you. 
Know that, “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms...” – Deuteronomy 33:27

Mrs. Dabner was a wonderful mother to a lot of youth. I have known her since Community Baptist Church early days. Great cook also. She has lived a wonderful and Blessed life. She will be missed 😇💔😢

Ms. Anderson is a staple at our family gatherings. No matter what was going on- celebration, loss, or milestone- we could count on Ms. Anderson being present and bringing her beautiful smile to bless us all. What a life well lived and job well done. We love you and miss you!

We will always love and miss you and Bernice from your laugh to your calm, demeanor, and your faith in God. I have fond memories of coming to visit you in the big Indianapolis at that time so I thought your presence will be missed. Love you.

Aunt Bernice brought so much joy into our lives and she will be missed especially that laugh.
She had a tough side too😁don’t get it twisted.
She loved all her Pastors and their families and most of all she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and knew where she would be spending eternity. A pattern we should all follow and if we do we will see her again.
