

MS. BETTY (BERIDI) MAE JOHNSON WALTON, affectionately known as "Betty," was born on November 15. 1938, to Will and Lillie Bell Johnson in Guthrie, Kentucky. She was the eldest of three children born to this union. The family moved to Indianapolis when Betty was six years old. She attended Indian-apolis public schools, graduating from Arsenal Technical High School in 1956. Betty was among the first group of African-American air traffic controllers in Indianapolis. In 1979, she graduated from Marian College with a degree in nursing and worked at Community East Hospital in the ICU, retiring after 35 years of service.
At a young age, Betty accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at Eastern Star Church. She was united in Holy Matrimony to John H. Walton, Sr. Betty proudly spoiled her offspring and grandchildren and was "Grandma" to many of their friends. She loved to dance and oftentimes was found "coaxing and coercing" her offspring to dance-offs. She loved cooking, astronomy, and crocheting. Betty enjoyed taking trips with friends and a good game of Bingo. Ms. Betty (Beridi) Mae Johnson Walton passed peacefully on July 12, 2019 at the age of eighty years. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister, son Jerry and daughter Lillian.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sons John Jr., Byron, Randy, and Terrance; grand-daughters Nakia Jordan, Donjaria Walton, LaKesha Walton, Tyree Walton, Lillian Walton and Mia Walton; grandsons Carlos Walton, Jason Walton, Terrance Walton, Jr., Brandon Walton, Lance Walton, John (Jake) Walton III, Jaden Walton and Stone Walton. Betty also leaves a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many cherished friends.
God saw the road was getting weary,
The hill was hard to climb.
He gently closed your loving eyes
And whispered "Peace Be Thine."
