Carla J. Chambers was the fourth of five children born to Robert Lee Chambers and Mary Lois Chambers on December 30, 1961. Carla was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Leonard Chambers and her nephew, David Chambers.
Carla attended School 1 on the Northeast side of Indianapolis and graduated from Arlington High School. She was a member of Eastern Star Church and gave her life to Christ at an early age at Allen Chapel Church.
Carla worked for Mays Chemical Company for 13 years. She graduated from beauty school with a license to do manicures and apply acrylic nails. Carla had a stream of regular customers which she tended to after hours while at Mays Chemical, and after leaving Mays for the next 10 years. She also had a gift for making flower arrangements for weddings. If you knew Carla, she was a stickler for maintaining a very neat and clean home. She was also a fashion bug…she knew how to ‘coordinate’! Carla met Kelven Joseph Mercier in 1984 and they exchanged vows on August 16, 1986. Two children were born, Cierra Marie Mercier and Jordon Marcel Mercier. Carla didn’t want to leave the children with anyone, so she and Kelven decided it was best for her to leave the workforce and care for their children herself. She truly enjoyed raising both children.
Carla was stricken with Rheumatoid Arthritis in her 30s and fought a good battle with the disease for over 26 years. With Carla’s close walk with the Lord, she managed to provide a strong spiritual foundation for Cierra and Jordon to follow. Carla’s strong Faith in the Lord brought her through for many years.
Carla loved and prayed for everyone and had no ill will or feelings for anyone. She just wanted everyone to have a close relationship with Jesus Christ and to understand how to gain salvation, so she could meet everyone in Heaven…especially her family and friends. Carla and Kelven celebrated 36 years of marriage together.
Carla leaves to celebrate her life, her husband, her children, her parents, her sister, Cheryl Chambers, her brothers, Archie Chambers, and Ronald Chambers. Along with her three nieces; Ona Chambers, Ahsya Chambers, and Shannon Chambers, her four nephews; Marshal Williams II, Isaiah Williams, Anthony Chambers, Denzel Bledsoe, and a host of cousins.
