

Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and loving uncle. He is survived by his children Charles (Charla), Tom (Nancy), and Steve (Kristin) Elizabeth (Derrick); his eight grandchildren Chris, Elijah, Ariel, Nathanial, Joseph, Erik, Chad, and Connor; and four great-grandchildren Avery, Paige, Axel, Cadence. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Ruby, brother William, sisters Alice and Ann, son John, and grandson Craig.
Charles served in the Army during WWII at Los Alamos during the development and testing of the Atomic Bomb. After serving in the Army, he attended Butler University then went into a lifetime career at Indiana Bell AT&T in both Indianapolis and Chicago for 34 years.
Charles enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, clogging, reading, road trips and breakfast with friends. He is remembered for his quiet demeanor and his devotion to his family and friends and ability to think the best of others. He served as a little league coach for many years at Haverford Little League and was awarded the St. John Bosco award for his many years of service in CYO.
After his retirement he served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister at local hospitals visiting the sick. He was a man of high duty to his family, church, and country. In 2024 he made an Honor Flight trip to Washington DC. He took care of his wife as the primary care giver for her during the final years of her life.
A visitation from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 5692 N Central Ave, Indianapolis, IN, 46220 on Monday, June 2, 2025.
