

Charles Francis McKay Jr., fondly known to family and friends as “Charlie,” was born on March 15, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Florence Jones and Charles Francis McKay Sr., both of whom preceded him in death.
Charlie attended several Indianapolis schools including St. Rita’s, Crispus Attucks, Arsenal Technical High School, and Shortridge High School. During his senior year, he chose to enter the workforce early and began working at the Chrysler UAW Foundry, where he would dedicate many years of service.
On December 29, 1973, Charlie married the love of his life, Audrey Elaine McKay, beginning a union that would last more than five decades.
Charlie was a faithful and dedicated employee of the Chrysler UAW Foundry for 44 years, retiring in 2001. He was also an active member of the Comma-Lee Club alongside his father. In his younger years, Charlie enjoyed boxing and proudly competed in Golden Gloves boxing.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Joe McKay; stepbrother Larry McKay; his sons Randy McKay and Shawn McKay; his daughter Michelle McKay; and grandsons Tony Sterling and Qwantoe Sterling.
Charlie leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 52 years, Audrey Elaine McKay; his children Charles Francis McKay III, Tonya R. Day, (Single) Norman McKay (Sarah), and daughter/niece Riquel Ivey (Fred).
He is also survived by his sisters Carol Dearman and Connie Simpson (John), and his brother William “Tutu” Woods.
Charlie’s legacy continues through his grandchildren Rochelle, Antwan, Chanel, Damon, Josh, Nishawn, Christian, Jaylen, and Devon Sr.
He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Asia, Qwantoe Jr., Devon Jr., Duchess, Jasmine, August, Jaxon,Kali and Finley and great-great-grandchildren Jacari, Amir, and Asani.
Charlie will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew and loved him.
