

Charles was born in Madisonville, Kentucky on October 6, 1942, and was reared by his grandmother, Laura Civils after losing his parents as an infant. His family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana when he was 10 years old. Charles confessed a faith in Jesus Christ at an early age. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. Charles was hard working and held many professions, he sold insurance, worked in a factory, was a real estate Broker, appraiser, and worked as a Computer Specialist for Naval Avionics, where he retired after 13 years of service. Charles was an excellent cook. He was a veteran and served in the Military where he received numerous awards. While stationed in Newfoundland, Canada, Charles met his first wife, Margaret Norma Gabriel and was married. From that union came two beautiful daughters, Sharlen Gabrielle and Mireille. They soon returned to the U.S. Charles was remarried to Lila Osiili and from that union came a handsome son, Geoffery Osili. Charles’ last marriage of fourteen years was to Gloria Jean (Candy) Mays, where he inherited two more handsome sons, Michael R. Mays Jr., and Craig L Mays. Charles enjoyed playing games of chance at American Veterans Post 99.
Charles is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean (Candy) Metcalf; children: Sharlen Gabrielle Finen (Don), Mireille Metcalf, Geoffery Osili, Michael R. Mays Jr., and Craig L. Mays; grandchildren: Khajah Johnson, Charles Nicholas Metcalf, Bennell Antonio Small, Zakiya Metcalf, Jeffrey Daniel Metcalf, and Khari Metcalf; best friend, James Wiggins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, Thursday, September 18, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Robin Reese of Augusta Christian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Crown Hill Funeral Home.
