Charles Edward Stewart, Jr. was a man whose life was defined by quiet, enduring acts of care that shaped every space he occupied. Born on April 11, 1972, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the first child of Charles Edward Stewart, Sr. and Elizabeth Carolyn Stewart. From an early age, he embraced his role as the protective and nurturing older brother with quiet strength and deep affection. One of the family’s most beloved memories is of young Charles walking with his mother and instinctively picking up a stick to protect her from a stranger he sensed might be approaching too closely. That moment would come to define his nature— gentle, watchful, and fiercely loyal.
Charles attended Minnie Hartmann Elementary School (#78), Hazel Hart Hendricks Elementary School (#37), H.L. Harshman Middle School, and later graduated from Howe High School. He discovered his passion in the culinary arts and became a dedicated cook at IU Health, as well as The Heart Hospital, where his commitment and skill were widely appreciated. Later, he brought his talents to Wyndmoor of Castleton, where he was known not only for his delicious, comforting meals but also for the warmth and joy he brought into every kitchen and dining room. He was recognized on several occasions as a valuable employee and remained a consistent source of positivity to all who worked alongside him.
He was a man who uplifted others—not only with his food, but with his laughter and kindness.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved children, Jada Nyaunna Stewart, Gavin Mason Stewart, and Wilson Sheldon; his loving mother, Elizabeth Carolyn Stewart; his sister, Latosha Stewart; his brothers, Darnell Stewart (Aisha, wife) and Aaron Stewart; his nephews, Aaron Jr., Da’Vion, Dayvon, and Darnell Jr.; and his grandmother, Eva Mae Kemp. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Stewart, Sr., and will be missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.
The legacy of Charles Edward Stewart, Jr. will live on in the hearts of those who knew him—in the meals he cooked, the memories he shaped, and the quiet strength he shared so freely.
A visitation for Charles will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
