Charlesetta "Chazz" Means

Charlesetta (Chazz) Shannon Means, 74, was born May 22, 1947, to the late Charles and Rosetta Shannon in Indianapolis, Indiana. Charlesetta attended Mary Cable Public School No. 4 and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1965.

Charlesetta (Chazz) professed her hope in Christ at an early age. She participated in several activities including adult choir and Sunday school.

As she grew in the WORD of God she became a strong woman of FAITH and a PRAYER Warrior. In July, 2003, Charlesetta became a member of Healing Streams Word & Worship Center where she served in the Intercessor & Hospitality Ministry.

In 1969, Charlesetta (Chazz) was employed by the Indianapolis Star & News as a Librarian. She worked at the STAR for over 30 years until she retired in the early 2000’s.

Charlesetta (Chazz) was an awesome cook and she loved to bake all sorts of pies. Especially, she loved to make her mouth watering chess pies. One day she had an idea to turn her passion for baking into a business. In 2009, CHAZZ’ CHESS PIES AND MORE was birthed into reality.

Charlesetta (Chazz) had many great accomplishments in her life but none could come close or compare to being mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She truly loved and adored her family and there was nothing in the world she would not do for them. Including knocking them upside their head if they needed it. She laid a solid foundation for them.

She was the walking proverbial woman. She was clothed with strength and dignity.

She can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instructions are on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. “Many women do noble things, but she surpasses them all.” Proverb 31.

Affectionately known as Chazz, Chick, Fat James, Buella Rich, and Gingersnaps, Grandmother, GGby her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Charlesetta (Chazz) Shannon Means departed this life on Thursday evening, March 24, 2022, at the age of 74 years, and 10 months.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter in-law, Crenia Ailemen, grandchildren: Chaela L.Rogers (DaJuan Newsom), Kevin L. Rogers Jr. (KJ), Keela S. Buell (Edward Buell II), Kayla Dunson(Stanley Dunson Jr.), great grandchildren: Lryiq K. Harden, Kevin L. Rogers III (Trey J); Kalib L. Rogers, William Derrick, Jr. (DJ); Ema’Ni N. Buell, Malachi L. Rogers, Aria S. Rogers, Cree L. Newsom; Elijah N. Buell; Cari L. Newsom, Hezekiah E. Dunson and Cruz L. Newsom: Favorite Nephew: Whitney O. Hamilton (Katherine Hamilton) and host of relatives and friends.

Charlesetta was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Rosetta Shannon; her brothers; Leonard and Herman Shannon, her only son Kevin L. Rogers Sr., and her niece Cynthia Hamilton.
