Darlene M. Kunstek passed away on June 9, 2025. Darlene was born December 1, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Herman and Dovie Brothers. She grew up on the east side of Indianapolis, attending St. Philip Catholic Grade School and graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1950. She married William (Bill) Kunstek on July 11, 1953, and had three children.
Darlene was the former manager of Play Bowl Lanes, a position she held from 1977 thru 1989. During those years Darlene was a very positive influence on the many young people that bowled in the Play Bowl Youth leagues. There was something about Darlene’s leadership that made all of us want to be the best that we could be. Those of us that worked or bowled at Play Bowl will always remember the great years we spent there. Play Bowl was a family, and that was because of Darlene and the love and caring she shared with everyone who walked thru the door. After leaving Play Bowl, she worked at Merchants Bank, retiring from the bank in 1997. Darlene tried retirement but missed working and being around people. She went to work at All Star Bowl where she was able to reconnect with many of her old Play Bowl friends. She worked there for several years, retiring for good at the age of 80.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Lynn Kunstek, her son William (Bill) Kunstek, her siblings Betty Gritt, Ralph Brothers, Georgiann Herbertz Oakley, and Virginia Bannon.
Darlene is survived by her daughter Cathy (Dave) Cox, her grandchildren Ryan (Ashley Eppich) Plummer, Courtney Moreno, Chris (Lauren Tanner) Clark, and Elizabeth Kunstek, her great grandchildren Sophia, Madeline and Jorge Moreno, Grace Plummer, Scarlett Clark, Mariah, Grayson and Caiden Clark, her sister Barbara (Phil) Prieshoff, many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Darlene will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7243 E. 10th St, Indianapolis, IN 46219. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12:00 PM. Darlene will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic School, 7241 E. 10th St, Indianapolis, IN 46219.
