

David Wymond Caperton of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on May 19, 2026, at the age of 90 surrounded by family. He was born on February 10, 1936, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. His parents were Woods A. Caperton and Martha Adams Caperton.
David attended high school in California, where he and his family moved to when he was younger, and went on to join the Air Force where he served from 1957 to 1961. After the Air Force, he worked for Hooks Drugs at the corporate office in Indianapolis for many years. Later, he and his wife, Elaine, opened Sunshine Flowers where he spent his time designing beautiful arrangements. David’s green thumb stayed with him throughout his life, as he continued to nurture and grow plants for many years after.
He is best remembered for his outgoing personality, infectious laugh, and ability to brighten a person's day.
David loved classical music and was a gifted musician himself, with the ability to play the piano, concertina, and harmonica by ear. He was known to carry a harmonica everywhere he went, even wearing a tiny one around his neck.
His artistic abilities didn't stop with music. He also made beautiful needlepoints, decorative eggs, knitted scarves and hats. He even knitted “preemie caps” that he donated to Eskenazi hospital. During Covid, he picked up the craft of Diamond Dotz to keep him busy, when staying in was mandatory. He was most proud of one depicting Christ’s manger scene, which had 72,000 of the dots and jewels. It was often displayed during the holidays for all to enjoy.
David resided at Marquette Senior Independent Living for the past 6 years. He enjoyed his time at Marquette where he made many friends and was involved in many activities.
David is survived by his children: Lisa Lage (Eddie), Catherine Arwood, Michael Caperton (Melissa), David Meador (Stacy); his grandchildren, Charlotte Lage, Alex Lage, Alex Arwood (Kristina), Kailee Grantham (Austin), Brianna Meador, Bridget Semonik (Brian), and Christopher Caperton.
David’s faith in Christ was a guiding light throughout his life, shaping the way he loved, served, and cared for others.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Toby, his sister Kristi, his wife, Elaine, son Robert Meador and his first wife Ann Hook.
Service for David will be held on May 26th at 2:00pm, with visitation starting at 1:00pm, at the Gothic Chapel at Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208 followed by graveside burial service at 3:00pm.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Marquette Senior Living, 8140 Township Line Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46260, on Sunday, May 31st at 2:00pm headed by Pastor Joe Johnson.
