David A. Garrett, 81, passed away December 7, 2016. David was born on November 17, 1935, in Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, to John and Charlotte Birch Bialeschki. Following the death of his father and his mother’s remarriage, he was then adopted by his stepfather, Paul E. Garrett. David was an accomplished Teacher, Coach, Administrator, and Principal for Indianapolis Public Schools. For his accomplishments, he received an award for Outstanding Principal of the Year. He was involved in several service organizations, including the Indianapolis Museum of Art (of which he and his wife, Dee, were trustees), the Indianapolis Symphony, the Athletic Club, the Festival Music Society, Historical Society, and Herron School of Art. David was the Race Day Steward at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for 36 consecutive years. He was also an Airman in the Air Force National Guard.
David is preceded in death by his wife, Delores Brink Garrett, and brother, Melvin Garrett. He is survived by his brother, Brian Garrett.
Funeral Service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at the Peace Chapel in the Mausoleum of Crown Hill Cemetery, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
