Kent, as he was known, accepted Christ at a young age and was a longtime member of Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church until his recent move to North Carolina where he joined Union Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina.
Kent was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School and Purdue University, which he attended on football and wrestling scholarships. His love for mathematics and mechanics was well translated through his passion for cars, airplanes, and speed. This passion led him to a long and fruitful career where he enjoyed his work with gas turbine engines, labor relations, and supervising plant maintenance.
Kent was employed at Allison, a division of General Motors which was later sold to Rolls Royce, and received several accolades and promotions. He volunteered with various community service organizations that championed race relations and equality.
On August 10, 1963 he was united in marriage to Yolanda (Farquhar) Turner. This union of over 52 years became a major reason for his desire to keep on keeping on. To this union four children were born. In addition to his wife Yolanda, he is survived by his children; Dawn Turner, Dalena Turner Bobmanuel (husband Alaiyi) and Dwayne Kenny Turner (wife Kara), and his sister Deirdre Diane Turner.
His parents, his brother-Robert "Bobby†Turner, and his first son-Gregory Turner, preceded him in death.
Kent’s greatest love was for God, his wife Yolanda, and for immediate and extended family and friends. He was especially fond of his grandchildren whom he tried to speak with daily. He had seven grandchildren: Wayne Anthony "Tony†Toles, Jasmine Mickle, Amber Green, Kennedy Turner, Alana Bobmanuel, Kendall Turner, and Elijah Kent Bobmanuel. After the passing of his brother, Kent played an integral role in the lives of his nieces and nephew: Donita Douglas, Daria Wilson, and Robert David Turner. Kent believed there was no such thing as a distant relative, he loved and cherished all of his nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Kent was a very fun-loving, strong and caring man who was always ready to be of help to anyone in need. He taught us strength, honor, responsibility, and above all love of God and family.
Mr. Dwayne Kent Turner Sr., departed this life as we know it on September 12, 2015 at 9:14 pm He will be tremendously missed.
