

67, of Indianapolis passed away on December 16, 2017. She was born on December 27, 1949 in Anderson, Indiana; the daughter of Don and Mabel Jenkins of Greenfield, IN. She married her loving husband Galen J Burns on January 29, 1972 at Bradley United Methodist Church in Greenfield. He survives along with cherished daughters Emily Dunlap and Dr. Amanda Burns of Indianapolis. She is survived by sisters Deborah (John) Bright of North Vernon, Indiana and Denise (James) Smith of West Lafayette, Indiana; niece, nephews, and great nephews. Diane retired in 2011 after 39 years of service at the Beech Grove Public Library, serving as Children’s Librarian and Library Director. Prior to retirement, she was honored to be named as Outstanding Public Librarian in Indiana by the Indiana Library Federation. Diane was a graduate of Greenfield High School, Purdue University (B.S.), and Indiana University (MLS). Her greatest joys were her grandchildren Madalynn, Eric, Travis, and Molly Dunlap. Diane had been active in Franklin Township Education Foundation, Greater Beech Grove Chamber of Commerce, Acton United Methodist Church, Beech Grove Tri Kappa, Beech Grove Schools Community Council, Beech Grove Jaycees Wives, and Franklin Township PTO, Civic League, Girl Scouts, and Girls softball. Diane enjoyed reading, gardening, and being part of the Beech Grove and Franklin Township communities. She especially enjoyed the staff, trustees, patrons, friends and volunteers of the library. She also loved to cheer for the Colts and Purdue Boilermakers. A Celebration of Diane’s life will be Wednesday December 27 at 6 pm at Little and Sons Stop Eleven Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 4 – 6 pm.
