

Doris L. Morone, 93, passed away in her sleep on Thursday, March 19, 2026 She was born on August 27, 1932 in Indianapolis and was the youngest daughter of the late Edward Frederick Heinrich Hitzeman and Pauline Hitzeman, who preceded her in death, along with her sister, Mary Louanna Hitzeman and her brother, William Bruce Hitzeman, her husband, Antone Morone and two feline sons, Salvatore and Vincenzo. She is survived by her sons, Mario Morone of Indianapolis, Dominic Morone and her daughter-in-law, Julie Morone of Berwyn, Illinois.
An Arsenal Tech High School graduate, she worked at Detroit Steel for three years and American Red Ball for 10 years as a keypunch operator. She continued her education at IBM Comptometer School, where she graduated from in 1960.
Doris converted to Catholicism when she was 19, she became a member of Our Lady of Lourdes on the eastside of Indianapolis in 1952. At a Young Catholic Adults event on New Year’s Eve in 1960, she met Antone Morone, who was a physics teacher at Broad Ripple High School and later sold insurance for Horace Mann. They were later married at Our Lady of Lourdes on January 5, 1963 and were together for nearly 50 years until his passing on December 27, 2012. After taking time off to raise her family, she worked at Citizens Gas and Coke Utility (now Citizens Energy) from January of 1973 as a contractor until she was hired full-time in May of 1973. She retired from Citizens Gas in January of 1993. Her family later became members of Holy Rosary in the summer of 1997.
Doris took piano lessons from age six to 16 and continued playing the piano the remainder of her life. She enjoyed listening to Mario Lanza and Nat King Cole.
