

Mrs. Dorothy Martin Graves-Porter was born October 10, 1928 in Tompkinsville, KY, the daughter of Leonard Graves and Willett Martin. At an early age she professed a hope in Christ. She joined and was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost at the Church of the First Born Saints. Mother Porter later joined and fellowshipped at the Church of the New Born Saints. Later in life, she attended New Vision Ministries under the leadership of her son, Pastor Gerald Graves.
Mother Porter was educated in the Indianapolis Public School System. Mother Porter was united in holy matrimony in 1973 to Othar Porter.
Mother Porter was employed at the Marion County General Hospital, aka, Wishard Hospital. She retired from domestic work in 1999.
Mother Porter was a very active member and joyfully worked with the Sunday School, usher board, missionary board, youth department, building fund, choir, arts and drama ministry and many other auxiliaries.
Mother Porter enjoyed designing her arts and crafts, crocheting and traveling with her sister, Marie, and cousins, Enna and Mary. She enjoyed being around her family, church family and friends. Mother Porter was loved by all who came in contact with her. She had a special love for her great grandchildren, grandchildren Jerry, Sierria, Jermey, Tracy, Derrick, Naketa and Rhonda. Mother Porter will be remembered for her compassion and care for others.
Mother Porter was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mother Porter was preceded in death by her parent; son, Gerald Graves; daughter, Deborah Graves-Robinson; brother, George and Leonard Graves; sisters, Marie Jones, Minnie Halsell and Lena Graves; grandchildren, Tracy and Naketa Graves and Rhonda.
Mother Porter shared her birthday with a special niece, Mary Daniels (Fran).
Mother Porter received her wings and transitioned on June 10, 2020, surrounded by her family. Mother Porter leaves to cherish her memory: beloved daughter/caregiver, Madeline Carol Bonds; son, Burton Stanley Graves; granddaughter/daughter, Regina (Pepper) Bonds-Johnson; grandson, Derrick McCanley; great grandchildren, Jerry Lamar, Sierria Shantell and Jermey William Bonds-Johnson; brother, Jerry Lee Graves; sister, Edith Brewer and Windy Graves; greatly loved niece/daughter, Theresa Marie Jones; son-in-law, John Robinson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and cherished friends.
