Dorothy "Dottie" M. White

Dottie was born in DuBois, Pennsylvania, and spent most of her early years in western Pennsylvania. Her parents were Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Colley, a Methodist minister and his wife, well known in that area.

Dottie graduated from Titusville High school and proceeded to Allegheny College, where she received her BA degree and was president of her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta. After graduating, she went to Philadelphia, where she attended the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School.

While going to graduate school, she worked at Jefferson Hospital in the Social Services Department. It was there that she met her future husband, Dr. J. B. White. They married while he was in the service, and after completing his training, they moved to Indianapolis.

Dottie was active in Marion County Medical Auxiliary, holding various positions. She was a founder of the Crossroads Guild, past president of Benefe’ Guild, active in the Children’s Museum Guild, and a 25-year docent at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Dottie enjoyed many years of golf and bridge at Meridian Hills Country Club.

Home was Brendonwood, where they raised their family and still have many loving ties. Her last years were spent at the Terrace at Marquette Manor, where she really enjoyed the many activities and friends.

Dottie and J.B. had three children: Debbie Bouvette of Atlanta, GA, Diann (Turner) Woodard of Indianapolis, IN and John B. White (Donna) of Columbia, SC. Grandchildren; Amy (Donnie) Taylor, Kristopher (Liz) Whitten, Ashley Leon, Taylor (Matt) Statman, T.J., (Megan) Woodard, Whitney Woodard, Lindsey (Tyler) Pope, and Macy White. Great-grandchildren; Hailey Whitten, Heidi Whitten, Tori Taylor, Rivington Statman, Turner John Woodard, Weldon Woodard, Walker Woodard, Benson Pope, and Baker Pope

Mrs. Dottie was a Smucker’s Girl, blessed to have seen 102 years.

A private service and burial will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery.
