Before becoming a firefighter, Elbert was a member of the United States Navy serving from 1975 to 1978. He became the Injury Prevention Captain on 04/25/1998, and later was the Injury Prevention Chief on 01/01/2000. Elbert was appointed to the rank of Operations Chief on 06/17/2000, which he held until leaving the Beech Grove Fire Department until 01/04/2007.
He was hired by the Franklin Township Fire Department on 01/05/2007 and was appointed to the rank of Division Chief of Training during his career on with them. The Franklin Township Fire Department merged into the Indianapolis Fire Department on 07/01/2010, and Elbert was assigned as the Engineer onTanker 55 B shift. Elbert transferred to become EMS Duty Officer North on 06/04/2011, but returned back to Tanker 55 B shift on 07/16/2011.
Elbert next moved to Engine 53 A shift on 07/09/2012. He made his final transfer to Ladder 55 A shift on 01/19/2015, where he stayed until retiring on 07/29/2022. Elbert was an avid fisherman and travelled across Indiana and Illinois for spots for fishing. He also enjoyed countless rounds of golf with firefighters and friends. Elbert was a loyal member of Indy Task Force 1 for many years.
Elbert is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Maryann Davidson; his loving son Eric (Jennifer) Carl Davidson; and his daughter Ashley (Matt) Houston; his brother Jeff (Margi) Davidson; his stepson Chris Carson, his stepdaughter Amy (Matthew) Klebe, his grandchildren: Kiah, Conleigh, Oakley, Bowie Davidson, Ethan Carson, Maxson and Myles Klebe.
Elbert was preceded in death by his loving parents Elbert and Carrie Davidson and his sister Debbie Carver.
A public visitation for Elbert will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Little & Sons Funeral Home, 4901 E Stop Eleven Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46237 followed by a private graveside service at New Bethel Cemetery, 8946 Southeastern Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana 46239.
