

Elder Thomas Sowell, Indianapolis passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013. He was born on January 7, 1923 to parents Elmira Sowell and Clark Mayes in Columbia Tennessee. Elder Sowell’s early years were spent in Nashville Tennessee with his brother, Leamon (Luessie) Sowell. (Deceased)He finished his education in Tennessee where he met his wife of 53 years, Carrie Woodard who preceded him in death.
Elder Sowell was Pastor of The Original Church of God in Muncie, IN. for 25 years before coming to Indianapolis. He was also an assistant overseer in the district. He taught several others who became Elders or ministers in their faith. Elder Sowell enjoyed teaching and sharing the gospel with everyone he met. Elder Sowell also retired from Broderick Steel after 15 years of service and worked in construction.
He is survived by an Uncle, Henry (LA Rue) Sowell; step-daughter, Patricia A (Willard) Moore of Westfield, IN.; Grandchildren; Adrienne (William) Goodvine-Westfield, IN; Erika Moore-Patuxent, Maryland; Bradley Moore- New York, New York. Great Grandchildren; Kayla Flake, William Goodvine, III, Aaron Goodvine; Foster Children, Billy (Susan) Torain â€" Chicago, IL; Carla Underwood- Detroit, MI, Siblings Elmer Lee Mayes, Odell Clark Mayes, Rev. Roy Dean Mayes, Pastor Frances Orr, and Pauline Russell. Leaving to cherish his memory are nephew Leamon Sowell, Jr. (LaVerne), nieces Zenobia Sowell-Bianchi (Tony), Deborah Sowell Cromartie, Rebekah Sowell-Ratliff (Cecil), Stefany Sowell-McDuffie (Ronald). Great nieces and nephews; Alexis Sowell, David Sowell, Jazmin Cromartie, Camron Ratliff. Etta Mae Sowell McGee of Nashville preceded him in death. She has 9 children all living in the Nashville area.
