

Mrs. Electa Jewel Burnett was born October 10, 1929, in Neelyville, Missouri. Electa was the third of eleven children born to the union of Oliver Burnett and Clara Naomi Johnson Burnett. They both preceded her in death. Electa graduated from Wheatley High School in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and moved to
Indianapolis in 1949.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to David Draper Burnett on April 23, 1960. They were married for 45 years.
Electa professed a hope in Christ and was baptized at Conley Grove Baptist Church, Neelyville. She joined Saint Paul Baptist Church when she moved to Indianapolis.
Electa embarked upon a career at Western Electric and retired as a line supervisor after many years of service. While employed at Western Electric, she received many awards and recognitions. She was also deeply involved in the Democratic Party and served as Precinct Chair and Ward Chair in Washington
Township.
Electa enjoyed spending time with her family and was a founding member of the George Williams Family Reunion which began in 1976. She was instrumental in shaping the lives of her younger siblings as well as several nieces and nephews. Nothing compared to gathering at her home, listening to music and comedy, having lively conversations, playing Bid Whist and eating some of her turkey and dressing, greens or famous baked beans.
Mrs. Electa Jewel Burnett departed this life on Thursday, May 23, 2024, and is now free and at rest. She was preceded in death by her Husband, David Draper Burnett; Brothers: Lawrence J. Burnett, George W. Burnett, Floyd Burnett; Sisters: Louise V. Blackmon, Annie N. Burnett, Lillie Olivia Williams, Elva Juanita
Crenshaw, Vivian Edith Newby and Niece: Sylvia Elaine Blackmon.
Her loving memory is left in the hearts of her Sisters: Lula M. Patton and Manila (Carol) Majors; Nieces: Faye Meriwether, Carolyn Larnette Wilson, Sharon Jones, Anita Holly, Clara Jones, Tamra Crenshaw, Pamela Scott, Undrea Burnett, Karen Martin, Laurell Jackson, Erika Glover, Maurica Thompkins, Brianna Padgett; Nephews: Frank Blackmon, III, Elliott Williams, Danny Maurice Crenshaw, Marvin Ashley Newby, Steven Keith Crenshaw, Demetrius McGee Burnett, Yasar Burnett, Sr., Brandon Padgett, a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and her roommate, Marcia who watched over her.
The family extends a special thank you to the respectful and compassionate caregivers and staff at Robin Run Village.
A visitation for Electa will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, in the Gothic Chapel, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
