Elvie S. Carandang peacefully passed away January 16, 2021, at the age of 88 surrounded by family.
Lovingly known as “Lola” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was born March 19, 1932, in Candelaria Quezon, Philippines. Receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacology and Masters in Chemistry from University of Santo Tomas in Manila, she then moved to the U.S. in 1966 and settled in Greenwood, Ind. She shared her vast knowledge and gifts of science to Riley Children’s Hospital and retired after 37 years.
She is preceded in death by parents, Iluminada deGala Sison and Vicente Sison; siblings, Dr. Vincent Sison, Norma Sison, Cesar Sison, Celso Sison, and Genie Sison.
She is survived by brother, Oscar (Lita) Sison; sister, Nelia Sison; six children: daughters, Amour (Miguel) Lopez and Roscel Carandang; sons, Roel (Kathy) Carandang, Rodolfo “Jojo” Carandang Jr., Rodelo “Odie” Carandang and Rovin (Melissa) Carandang; grandchildren, Summer (Jason) Hatchett, Alisha Schultz (Bryan), Sasha Hahn (Toemi), Adam Carandang, Quinten Tucker, Mya Carandang, Lucy Carandang, Ty Carandang, Elin Carandang; great-grandchildren, Karena Bufala, Giavanna Bufala, Jason “Joey” Hatchett, Jr., Leilani Hahn and Hanalei Hahn; and a large filipino family of aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and great-nieces/nephews and Godchildren.
Private services and a Catholic Mass will be held in celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, 335 S Meridian St, Greenwood, IN 46143.
