

Frances Marian Patterson (Sloan), fondly known as Fran, passed away at the age of 86 on August 13, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born in Gary, Indiana, on January 17, 1938, Fran dedicated her life to kindness, generosity, and service to her community.
Fran graduated from Roosevelt High School and soon after began a long and rewarding career at the Gary Public Library, where she worked for 47 years. Her commitment to fostering a love of reading and education in her community left a lasting impact on many.
A devout member of Christ Baptist Church, Fran's faith was an integral part of her life, guiding her actions and interactions with those around her. Her gentle and giving nature was a testament to her strong beliefs and values.
Fran was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Debbye Reynolds-Hill; grandsons, Clayton and Keelan Mullins; granddaughter, Layke Reynolds; five great-grandchildren; her niece, Tiffany Sloan; and a host of cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Thomas Sloan; sisters, Yvonne Davis and Phyllis Sloan; her beloved husband, Clarence Patterson; and devoted son-in-law Garnell Hill.
Fran's life was characterized by her unwavering kindness and Fran's family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this time and invites those who knew her to cherish their memories of her. Her kindness, dedication, and loving spirit will be dearly missed. She cherished her family and friends, always striving to provide support and love. Her legacy of warmth and caring will live on through the many lives she touched.
